It is with great sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the untimely passing of our dear colleague, professor Janko Ramač, on August 27, 2022.
The main field of scientific research of professor Ramač was the social, cultural and educational history of the Rusyns, as well as the Rusyns’ ties with Ukraine. He published five books, more than 100 scientific papers, as well as numerous significant sources for the history of Yugoslav and Vojvodina Rusyns. He was a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad and the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade, and guest lecturer at universities in Ukraine, Slovakia, Poland, and Croatia. He authored the first translation of the Bible from Greek into Rusyn. He was a prominent Slavicist, highly respected in Slavic and Ukrainian circles and was often invited to scientific conferences and professional gatherings.
We will remember professor Janko Ramač by his warmth, generosity, erudition and dedication to the study of the language of the Vojvodina Rusyns.
